Cloud Based Hacking Lab
[00:00:00] If you want to do Nmap scans from the internet using your own server, you can use a cloud based server. Why might you want to do this? Well on your local network, you may have restrictions as to what type of traffic you can send out. Or maybe you're doing this from work or from school. And that network doesn't allow or types of scan traffic out.
In which case you might need an internet based cloud-based server. From which you can do your ethical hacking or your Nmap scanning, which you can easily and cheaply set up these days. In fact, it's very easy to get your own cloud server for use as a lab or for ethical hacking and other activities.
These days here, you can see in front of you, one such provider of cloud services, and this is digital ocean, which I recommend also here, we've got linode. Which I recommend turnkey Linux. Another one that I recommend and very popular and very well known is Amazon web services. I recommend all of these [00:01:00] as my company station X uses them for various things.
So I can vouch for them all. Let me give you a quick example of how easy it is to set up your own cloud-based server for ethical hacking using digital ocean. So go to digital oceans website, which is here. You obviously, you need to register, they need to log in. You also might need to put in credit card information depending on what server it is that you're going to select.
And then you need to create a droplet. A droplet is the name of a virtual server or cloud-based server. And you can see it's whizzing away here giving us the options. I recommend you select Debian and Debian, and is my preferred operating system. you can choose a size. I, I mean, for Nmap you don't need anything bigger than a $5 a month size of a server, which you can select here with Amazon web services.
There are still free microservices that you can use that you don't have to pay anything for, but it's [00:02:00] actually quicker and easier to set these up via digital ocean. We can come down here. We can add our storage at the location. SSH keys, choose a name and then create, and that's it. We have our own machine for doing what we want with, and then we can SSH into that machine.
So SSH, I'm gonna SSH into mine. Mine's got a nickname of cloud lab and then I can. Run my Nmap commands Nmap minus H. So there I am on my cloud server there able to scan whatever it is that I want from the internet. You can get the full Kali on AWS, which is Amazon web services, which I. Just pointed out, which is there.
So that's the full Kali version on a cloud-based server. You need to go to Amazon web services. If you're not familiar with this, you've got to create an account register, add your credit card details and such. And then you go to create an instance [00:03:00] of a server and you can look on the AWS marketplace and here you can see a Kali Linux server, which you can select, which is free.
So you can install quickly a cloud-based full Kali instance, giving you full cloud-based hacking lab to use with Nmap and, or the hacking. So there you go. I wanted to give you a, a brief on how you can get yourself a hacking lab together there. Digital ocean, Linode, turnkey, Linux, Amazon web services, and even check out the Kali.
